Service Projects

  • Assurance Home - Contributed financially to the Roswell Assurance Home for Battered and Neglected Children, assisted in the renovation of the new facility, sponsored parties for the residents, provided summertime meals, given sundry and other assistance when requested, donated Easter Baskets filled with cash and goodies to the children at the Assurance Home.
  • Roswell Literacy Program - Sponsors the Roswell Literacy Council, tutoring adults in reading and in English as a second language. Altrusans also volunteer at the Friends of the Roswell Public Library Books Again bookstore. Altrusans have also collected children's books and distributed to needy organizations.
  • Dictionaries, Thesauruses and World Atlases to Schools - For several years, have donated dictionaries to students at elementary schools in Roswell.
  • The Refuge - Helped to make The Refuge, Roswell’s shelter for battered adults, a reality. The shelter serves as a crisis intervention facility for victims of domestic violence.
  • Salvation Army - Altrusans serve as bell ringers one day during December. Altrusans also assist with food drives and other projects as needed.
  • Walk to End Alzheimer’s –Sponsors the Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s and also forms a TEAM to walk, raise funds and awareness of the disease.
  • Yes MAM Project - The Yes MAM Project promotes breast cancer education/screening and provides financial support for literature and other necessary items. 
  • Women’s History Month - The Altrusa Club of Roswell is a co-sponsor for the annual Women’s History Month brunch celebration.
  • Christmas Shut-In Visitation - Altrusans packaged Christmas presents for residents of a nursing home.  They visited nursing homes, delivering the presents and celebrating with the residents.  The Club also delivers cash and Christmas greetings to area shut-ins.
  • Scholarships to Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell - Provides money for GED Scholarships, as well as 5 scholarships to adult students.
  • Altrusa Park - A newly established and equipped city park was officially named Altrusa Park on June 6, 2015 and will serve as the site for future literacy and community education/service projects.
